Golden Gate Yacht Club's Race Committee is an active volunteer organization with a fine tradition of race management over the Club's 68-year history. Committee members are active participants in both US Sailing and Yacht Racing Association training events. New Race Committee members are always welcome regardless of experience. The senior members provide both orientation and on-the-job training to the new committee members.
Golden Gate Yacht Club is the organizing authority for some of the most popular Bay Area regattas: The 9 race Friday Night Beer Can Series, a 5 race IRC Regatta, The Ruth Gordon Schnapp Regatta, a woman’s only skippered event and the Manuel Fagundes Seaweed Soup Regatta. In its 36th year, the Seaweed Soup Regatta attracted over 80 entries last season.
Each year the Race Committee manages the above Club regattas along with Yacht Racing Association sponsored races for Wooden Boat Racing Association, Singlehanded Sailing Society, One Design Class Association, and Ocean Yacht Racing Association.
Golden Gate Yacht Club will again host the PICYA's Lipton Cup Series as well as committees from other clubs who manage races from our facilities. In 2007, fourteen such races will occur.
